Label your links — then filter your clicks by that label
Tags cut across folders, so one label can sit on links from every client or campaign. Tag is one of the fifteen filters on the analytics dashboard, not just a way to sort a list.

Quick answer
What are link tags?
Link tags are labels applied to short links so they can be grouped across folders — a link can carry any number of them. In ClikSo a tag is also one of the fifteen click analytics filters, so selecting one narrows every KPI, chart and breakdown on the dashboard to the links carrying that tag.

How link tags work
The first three steps are organisation. The fourth is the one worth having them for.
Create a tag
Name it — up to 10 characters — and pick a colour from the 20-swatch palette. Tags belong to the workspace, so everyone who shares it sees and uses the same set rather than inventing their own.
Put as many as you need on a link
A link can carry any number of tags, and the same tag can sit on links in different folders. That is the difference from a folder: a folder is one place a link lives, a tag is a label that travels with it.
Filter the links list by tag
The links list filters by tag, which is how most people find a link again weeks later — the folder narrows it to the client, the tag narrows it to the channel or the quarter.
Filter your click analytics by tag
Tag is one of the fifteen filters on the analytics dashboard — pick one and every KPI, the trend chart, the map and all nine breakdown tiles recalculate for the links carrying it.

Folders vs tags — what the difference actually is
Most workspaces end up using both: link folders for the structure, and the other for everything that cuts across it.
Folders
One folder per link
Acme Corp
- clik.is/acme-pricing
- clik.is/acme-demo
Spring Sale
- clik.is/spring
- clik.is/spring-qr
Four links, two folders, one level deep. A link moved to another folder leaves this one, and a folder never holds another folder.
Tags
Many tags per link
- clik.is/acme-pricingQ1Paid
- clik.is/acme-demoQ1
- clik.is/springQ1PaidEmail
- clik.is/spring-qrPrint
The same four links. Q1 is on three of them at once and clik.is/spring carries three tags — the part a folder cannot do.
| Aspect | Folders | Tags |
|---|---|---|
| How many per link | One folder per link | As many tags as you like — no cap |
| Shape | A flat list. No subfolders, no nesting | A flat list of labels, applied across folders |
| Think of it as | Where a link lives | What a link is about |
| How many you get | 3 Free · 6 Starter · 15 Pro · 40 Business | 5 Free · 10 Starter · 20 Pro · 50 Business |
| Name length | Up to 20 characters | Up to 10 characters |
| Colour | No colour | A hex colour from a 20-swatch palette |
| In click analytics | Not one of the analytics filters | One of the 15 analytics filters — filter the whole dashboard to one tag |
| Applying it to many links at once | Bulk move to folder, up to 100 links per action | No bulk tagging — tags are applied per link |
| Permissions | Not an access boundary — no per-folder permissions | Not an access boundary either |
| Reach for it when | The link belongs to one client, brand or campaign | The label cuts across folders — channel, quarter, owner, test |
Folders and tags are both available on every ClikSo plan, including Free.
What people tag
The useful test: would you ever want a click chart for just this group?
Reporting by channel
Tag links newsletter, social or print, then filter the click dashboard to one of them. You get a channel report without building a separate campaign structure for it.
A quarter or a season
Tag everything that went out in Q4. Next January the tag is the fastest way to see what the quarter actually did, across every folder it touched.
Cutting across clients
Folders hold one client each; a tag can sit on links in all of them. It is how you answer "how did every case-study link perform" when the links live in nine different folders.
Who owns the link
In a shared workspace, a tag per owner or per team makes it obvious who to ask before someone re-points a link that is still running somewhere.
Marking an experiment
Tag the links in a test so you can pull them back out later. Combined with the destination-URL breakdown, that is how you read the result of a split test after the fact.
Links that belong in two places at once
A link sits in exactly one folder, but it can carry as many tags as your plan allows. That is the whole distinction: the folder is where a link is filed, the tags are everything else that happens to be true about it.
Link tags across link shorteners
Everyone has tags. The question worth asking is whether a tag reaches your analytics.

Good to know
- There is no bulk tagging. Tags are applied one link at a time — the bulk actions are delete, archive or unarchive, and move to folder, each capped at 100 links per action.
- Tag names are limited to 10 characters, and colours come from a fixed palette of 20 swatches rather than a free colour picker.
- Tags are capped per workspace: 5 on Free, 10 on Starter, 20 on Pro and 50 on Business. There is no cap on how many tags you put on one link.
- Tags are shared workspace-wide, and they are not permissions. Everyone in the workspace sees every tag, and a tag does not restrict who can open or edit a link.
- Tags filter the analytics dashboard, but they are not a breakdown tile — there is no "clicks by tag" chart that ranks your tags against each other.
Link tags by plan
Tags are on every plan, including Free — as are link folders and click analytics, where the tag filter lives.
Frequently asked questions
Create a tag in ClikSo with a name of up to 10 characters and a colour from the 20-swatch palette, then apply it to a link when you create or edit that link. Tags belong to the workspace, so the whole team applies the same set rather than each person inventing their own labels.
Yes. Tags are many-to-many and there is no cap on how many a single link can carry. That is the practical difference from folders, where each link belongs to exactly one folder.
Yes. Tag is one of the fifteen filters on the ClikSo analytics dashboard. Pick a tag and the KPIs, the trend chart, the world map and all nine breakdown tiles — countries, cities, devices, browsers, operating systems, referrers and the rest — recalculate for just the links that carry it.
A tag is a label and a link can have many; a folder is a place and a link can only be in one. Tags also work as an analytics filter, while folders organise the links list. Most workspaces use folders for clients or brands and tags for everything that cuts across them, such as channel or quarter.
No. Link tags are internal labels that live in your ClikSo workspace and are never visible to a visitor. UTM parameters are part of the destination URL, are sent to the destination site and its analytics, and are built with the UTM builder. Tags stay inside your account; UTM parameters travel with the visitor.
Five on Free, ten on Starter, twenty on Pro and fifty on Business, per workspace, with a custom number on Enterprise. Each tag name can be up to 10 characters and takes a colour from a fixed 20-swatch palette.
Yes. Tags are Bitly’s main way of organising links — it replaced its old bundles feature with tags, and has no folders. ClikSo has both tags and folders on every plan, including Free, and tag is one of the fifteen filters in its click analytics.
Every plan includes tags, including Free. The plan only changes how many tags a workspace can have: 5, 10, 20 or 50 from Free up to Business.
