Quick answer
What are link folders?
Link folders group short links inside a workspace so the list stays navigable — one folder per client, campaign or brand. In ClikSo a link belongs to exactly one folder, folders are a flat list with no nesting, and every plan includes them: 3 on Free, rising to 40 on Business.

How to organize your short links
Four steps, and the third one is the one that rescues an untidy library.
Create a folder
Go to Folders and create one, with a name up to 20 characters — a client, a brand, a campaign. Folders live at the workspace level, so everyone who shares the workspace sees the same set.
Put links in it
Choose the folder when you create a link, or set it later from the link itself. A link sits in exactly one folder at a time; moving it to another one takes it out of the first.
Move a batch at once
Select links in the list and use the bulk Move to folder action, which handles up to 100 links per action. This is how most people tidy up a library that grew before they had folders.
Open the folder to filter the list
Opening a folder filters the links list to just that folder, so a workspace with a thousand links behaves like one with forty. Tags then cut across folders for everything that does not fit the structure.
Folders vs tags — what the difference actually is
Most workspaces end up using both: link tags for the structure, and the other for everything that cuts across it.
Folders
One folder per link
Acme Corp
- clik.is/acme-pricing
- clik.is/acme-demo
Spring Sale
- clik.is/spring
- clik.is/spring-qr
Four links, two folders, one level deep. A link moved to another folder leaves this one, and a folder never holds another folder.
Tags
Many tags per link
- clik.is/acme-pricingQ1Paid
- clik.is/acme-demoQ1
- clik.is/springQ1PaidEmail
- clik.is/spring-qrPrint
The same four links. Q1 is on three of them at once and clik.is/spring carries three tags — the part a folder cannot do.
| Aspect | Folders | Tags |
|---|---|---|
| How many per link | One folder per link | As many tags as you like — no cap |
| Shape | A flat list. No subfolders, no nesting | A flat list of labels, applied across folders |
| Think of it as | Where a link lives | What a link is about |
| How many you get | 3 Free · 6 Starter · 15 Pro · 40 Business | 5 Free · 10 Starter · 20 Pro · 50 Business |
| Name length | Up to 20 characters | Up to 10 characters |
| Colour | No colour | A hex colour from a 20-swatch palette |
| In click analytics | Not one of the analytics filters | One of the 15 analytics filters — filter the whole dashboard to one tag |
| Applying it to many links at once | Bulk move to folder, up to 100 links per action | No bulk tagging — tags are applied per link |
| Permissions | Not an access boundary — no per-folder permissions | Not an access boundary either |
| Reach for it when | The link belongs to one client, brand or campaign | The label cuts across folders — channel, quarter, owner, test |
Folders and tags are both available on every ClikSo plan, including Free.
Who it's for
Folders earn their keep the moment more than one person, brand or campaign shares an account.
One folder per client
The reason most agencies want folders at all. Each client gets a folder, and the links list stops being a single feed of everybody’s campaigns in date order.
A folder per campaign
Spring sale, Black Friday, product launch. When the campaign is over the folder stays as a record of every link that went out under it.
Several brands in one workspace
If you run more than one brand on one account, folders keep each brand’s links together — and pair naturally with a custom domain per brand.
Onboarding a new teammate
A shared workspace where links are grouped is a workspace someone new can actually use on day one, instead of asking which of the four similar links is the live one.
Finding a link again
Links are easy to make and hard to find six weeks later. A folder narrows the list before you even start searching, and tags narrow it again.
Print and QR campaigns
Keep the links behind printed QR codes in their own folder. They are the ones you can never reissue, so they are the ones worth being able to find instantly.
Folders across link shorteners
A small feature that quietly decides whether a shared workspace is usable at 500 links.

Good to know
- Folders are flat. There are no subfolders and no nesting — a folder cannot contain another folder, on any plan.
- A link lives in one folder at a time. Moving it into a second folder removes it from the first; use tags when something genuinely belongs to two groups.
- Folders are not access control. There are no per-folder permissions, so everyone in the workspace can see every folder in it. Dub markets per-folder access control on its Business plan and ClikSo has no equivalent — permissions are set workspace-wide, with admin, editor and viewer roles.
- Folder names are limited to 20 characters, and the number of folders is capped per workspace: 3 on Free, 6 on Starter, 15 on Pro, 40 on Business.
- Bulk Move to folder takes up to 100 links per action, so a very large clean-up is a few passes rather than one.
Link folders by plan
Folders are on every plan, including Free. They pair with link tags, which are also free and are one of the filters in click analytics.
Frequently asked questions
Create a folder in ClikSo, then choose it when you create a link or set it on a link you already have. Opening the folder filters the links list to just those links. To tidy up an existing library, select links in the list and use the bulk Move to folder action, which takes up to 100 links at a time.
A link sits in at most one folder, or in none, which keeps the links list tidy, and tags cover the rest: a link can carry as many tags as you like, so it can sit in its client’s folder and still be grouped by channel, campaign or quarter.
A folder is where a link lives and a link can only be in one; a tag is a label and a link can have many. Tags are also one of the fifteen filters in click analytics, so you can filter your whole dashboard to a single tag, while folders are for organising the links list.
Three on Free, six on Starter, fifteen on Pro and forty on Business, per workspace. Enterprise is a custom number. Folder names can be up to 20 characters.
No. Bitly organises links with tags, plus Campaigns on its Premium plan and account Groups on Enterprise, rather than folders. ClikSo has both folders and tags on every plan, including Free.
Every plan includes folders, including Free. The only difference between plans is how many you get: 3, 6, 15 or 40 as you move from Free to Business.
